Posted by Millie Slater on

Don't be a slow coach. It's time to speed up the pace and get cracking. There's no getting around it. It's the end of the financial year and that means all clients have those big and unwieldy questionnaires to fill out. This year we are posting and couriering them to you. You'll receive a prepaid return envelope as well so you can send them back to us promptly. So...it's really important. Don't bin this stuff from Slaters!

Work Life Business Balance
Posted by Brett Slater on

It's always hard to find the right balance, especially if you run a small to medium sized business.
The demands of your workplace and how you need to run it can consume every waking hour. There's an avalanche of emails to answer, tasks to delegate and customers and clients to help. The business stops if these vitals aren't performed and addressed daily. It can get really hard. And stressful. And tiring.
Before you know it you're feeling alone, misunderstood and like a bit of a workhorse. Will it ever end?

Small business costs
Posted by Millie Slater on

Hot off the IRD Press. On 1 April 2015 changes to the tax treatment of employee allowances will take effect. Allowances are payments made to an employee in addition to their salary or wage and can include payments for accommodation, food or clothing. The changes clarify the tax treatment of employer-provided accommodation, accommodation payments and other allowances or payments made by employers to cover employee expenditure. It's worth checking out the IRD website every so often to see whether any of their recent "news" updates apply to you. That being said, Slaters tends to keep abreast of the developments and if there are any major changes or developments, (such as the recent verification requirements due o the Money Laundering Bill) we will notify our clients and let you know. Employee wages and costs are often one of the greatest outlays for any business and it's important to remember that good team members are often worth hanging on to. When you find the right people for your business who work in with your goals and expectations as seamlessly as is possible, it's important to treat them accordingly. This can involve a number of strategies that maintain workplace happiness and high productivity.
How to Say "No" in Your Workplace
Posted by Millie Slater on
What's in a word? Does no just mean no? No it doesn't. Not in the workplace. And that's why a good and healthy workplace will try to qualify and explain "no" in a clear and effective manner. If you're a business owner or manager, saying this word properly is a great skill. It's also difficult because as an overseer you are required to make decisions that weigh up individual employee needs or combined team needs and/or customer needs, against your business' needs and even your own personal and professional needs. In short it gets confusing. A simple query from one customer...
